JACOB. (Gn 32, 23-29)

C.  It was night
    
    when Jacob arose,
             Fa 
    took his wives with him

    and all his sons
                                   La-
    and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.


    
    He took them and sent them across the stream,
                 Fa 
    sending with them
              Mi
    all his possessions:
                        La-
    and Jacob remained alone.


            Sol
    And someone            |
                La-        |  (ASS.RPT.)
    fought with him.       |
            Sol
    And someone
                              La-
    fought with him until the dawn.


    La-
    And since he could not overcome Jacob,
                  Fa 
    he struck the hollow of his hip:

    and Jacob's hip was dislocated

    as he fought with Him.

    Let me go for dawn is coming. (x2 A)

    Then God asked: 
    
    "What is your name? What is your name?"

    "Jacob", he replied,

    "Jacob", he replied.

    "You shall no more be called Jacob.

    ISRAEL, YOU HAVE DISCOVERED YOUR WEAKNESS.

    ISRAEL, YOU SHALL LEAN ON GOD."

C.  "Israel, Israel.
      Sol                 La-
    Israel  shall be your name.

    Israel, you have discovered your weakness.
